In popular music, a cover version, or simply cover, is a new rendition (performance or recording) of a previously recorded, commercially released song. NEW BAND: La Patère Rose

Formé du claviériste et échantillonneur Thomas Hébert (alias Roboto), du batteur et DJ Julien Harbec (alias Kilojules) et de la chanteuse-pianiste Fanny Grosjean (alias Fanny Bloom), La patère rose est un groupe électro-pop à l’univers coloré, passionné et au son sensible. C’est en 2003 que les membres de La patère rose se rencontrèrent au cégep de Sherbrooke pour ensuite commencer à jouer ensemble deux ans plus tard. En 2005, Fanny Grosjean se rend à la finale nationale de Cégeps en spectacle, alors que Julien et Thomas forment le groupe Misteur Valaire. En 2008, ils développent leur son unique et se présentent aux Francouvertes, où ils se rendent en finale en compagnie de Bonjour Brumaire et Le Citoyen. L'univers sonore du trio, inspiré de Camille, Émilie Simon, Lily Allen, The Do en passant par Martha Wainwright jusqu'à Brel, leur permet de convaincre le public ainsi que le jury et de remporter la grande finale de la 12e édition des Francouvertes. Ils ont également remporté le Prix de la chanson Socan pour Backyard souvenir ainsi que le Prix du public. Après une participation remarquée aux FrancoFolies de Montréal en 2008 et au Festival Osheaga, La patère rose participera aux Francofolies de Spa en Belgique et présentera une tournée qui les mènera partout au Québec en 2009.

Imagine the best bits of Architecture In Helsinki, The Hidden Cameras and every band you've clapped along to like an over-excited five year old, in the way they shoot out lo-fi melodies that seem utterly spontaneous. If they're half as fun as their demos, we're in for a treat."

NEW BAND: Zissou

Zissou are a five piece friends, this amateur band was formed in Chepstow UK. They have been playing together for about two and a half years now, but have achieved as much as some bands do in two months. Despite this they keep going even after being geographically separated thanks to university. They're not really sure why they stick at it, but hopefully you'll enjoy the results. This band is poorly unknown, but they really have great influences, I almost love all the bands they have at their myspace marked as influences. Give them a chance to their indie pop, after few listens they won't surely/honestly disappoint you. Their only EP is called " Pull Your Tangles Through".

Strip Squad os pondrá a tono. Este quinteto sueco se caracteriza principalmente por mezclar canciones muy pegadizas con letras juveniles, desenfadadas y divertidas, totalmente amateurs y sin ninguna pretención. Llamadlas picantes, perversas, incitadoras pero siempre dentro de un marco gracioso y sobretodo twee pop. Ya basta de letras retorcidas, extrañas y que hablan de los mismos temas monótonos. Casi todas sus canciones tienen un puto de provocación e incitan a... bueno os lo mostraré: Por ejemplo en Unreliable Narrator aparecen cosas como " when he masturbates he thinks of pretty things like the arch of your eyebrown your almond shaped eye the way you looked when you said goodbye ... he goes dancing at the indie-club every friday too shy to make a move doesn't dare to talk but his penis, I've seen it, i t's hard and erect like a carrot, sir.." o en If You Don't Take Me Right Away You Might As Well Fuck Off, tambien suena interesante : " (so what happened to you last night?) (club 77 yeah huh!) he turned me on by the pooltable I saw his underwear label (oh so fuckable!) but instead of having me against the wall he airfucked on the floor in the dancehall ". Otras como Pervert / Expert e incluso You Cream My Pants, dejan entrever sus graciosas letras. Su EP incial llamado "Just Obey! " es el preludio de su reciente Cd " The Adventures of Strip Squad".

NEW BAND: Elle S'appelle

Elle s'appelle are in the most conventional sense of the word, a band. More specifically, a three piece guitar band from Liverpool without guitars, but with a girl and a keyboard. Bass, Keys and drums. Courtesy of Andy (vocals/guitar), Lucy (vocals/keyboards) and Owen (vocals/drums). Background: Liverpool has given us many great and quirky pop things over the years, apart from the obvious, from Cook Da Books to the Coral, Pale Fountains to Pink Military/Industry, but no one in the city has thought of doing hyperactive nursery rhymes before. Elle s'appelle, chanced upon this wild and crazy notion earlier this year, when they decided to get together united by a love of storytelling and staccato electro.

EDIT: The band is not a band anymore from the last August... Lucy and Owen decided to leave the band... We don't have news of where are they playing right now but as soon as we know something we will let you know. What a pity!

"We were promised jetpacks." are one of my new favourite bands. They are from Glasgow, UK and there are definite similarities to Interpol but they keep it danceable and easygoing, leaving any bravado by the wayside. The band just got a few weeks ago their first album leaked and I have to say it is really awesome. A band to follow in the close future. Their next concert is in the festival Hinterland in Glasgow (where I am going next week and I hope I'll be able to see them live...).

The Joy Formidable conforman una conexión británica Londres-Gales que dará mucho que hablar en los próximos meses. Con una formación de trío clásico: los grititos a lo Klaxons de Rhydian (bajo), y la dulce voz de Ritzy (nueva rubia de oro, que tiemble Sharin de The Raveonottes) contrastan con las guitarras distorsionadas y la certera batería de Justin, junto a muchos riffs que se repiten. Hace nada han publicado su primer trabajo llamado "A Balloon Called Moaning". Su sonido puede recordar algo a Yeah Yeah Yeahs y algún guitarrazo me trae a la mente a los Pixies y al rock alternativo que se hacía en los 90'.

Today I have a "music festival" day. First with the lineup of Lollapalooza and now with NXNE (North by northeast), the copy of SXSW in Toronto, Canada. Why I'm speaking about this festival? Because since 2009 EGWM became FAN, yes, with CAPITAL letters, of music who comes from Canada and where is the best place to see all our bands? this festival... It mix bands from canada, america and europe (a band from Estonia is coming this year...). Today I was looking the webpage and finally they are starting to give names and what a surprise! I know some of them! King Khan & BBQ Show / Woodpigeon / Matt and Kim / The Coathangers ....

So, if anyone is thinking of going to this festival, LET ME KNOW! I'm not rich but for sure we can use a couch for this days. We just need a flight ticket... Anyone working in a flight company? Ah, I almost forgot! The prices of this festival are 5 times less expensive than SXSW. YAY! 50$ por 5 days of non-stop music! double YAY!

NEW BAND: Hot Silk Pockets

They come from Glasgow, Southend, South Wales, Yorkshire and Reading, though it was the latter province where the band formed, half an hour or so’s train ride from London Paddington. The band takes their name from the little things people put in their pockets when they go camping in winter like hand warmers. Coming together initially to play “parties in their shed”, the quartet slogged hard, graduated to living rooms and here they are now. Hot Silk Pockets English pop zouk is good, and after a few listens I think it’s the punchiness of the bass lines and rough-edged recordings that I’m attracted to the most. They definitely have potential, but in a scene with countless similar sounding bands they’ll have to work extremely hard to get recognised.

Smile and a Ribbon son Rebecca Mehlman y Martin Lindqvist, aunque en directo se hagan acompañar por cuatro músicos más, dicen sonar como el equivalente a un pastel de limón. Procedentes de Malmö, ciudad cuna del twee pop sueco, y no es de extrañar debido a la avalancha de nuevos grupos suecos en el escenario pop actual. Su primer cd limonero " The Boy I Wish I Never Met" suena fresco, pop por supuesto y twee a por doquier! Enamoradizos de The Magnetic Fields, Language of Flowers, Talulah Gosh e incluso Pulp. Influencias de palabras MAYORES, y un resultado digno de ser escuchado.

It's been a long time without this section... Too many new sections and things to do... But tonight I want to introduce you my new favourite band to listen at night, THE RED RIVER. This guys from Long Beach, CA play a folk-downtempo music that can take you to another place... A place with grass and an amazing sunlight and you are there, sitting, alone, listening the song "something good" and thinking about your life, what you did good, what you did wrong, what you want to change, what you want to forget, what do you want to do,... and the sun is going down and you start feeling a little bit cold but you can not move because the moment is perfect... The moment you were waiting for a long long time... And you can't move...

"Something good" is in the last album of this band, "Grassblades". Highly recommended!

Again with Canada... I can not stop finding new bands I want to share with everyone. Too many small bands from little towns in Canada with a lot of potential! And I'm finding them without going there... Just myspace, blogs (i heart music) or facebook... 10 new songs (some from bands you probably know already...) in the same line as lately with a little bit more of rock and more guitar (the new bands: the lovely feathers, polytarp and hollerado) and more happy songs (hooded fang, whale tooth and the best ending ever with henri faberge and the adorables). And, like always, songs of my favourites canadian bands, the ghost is dancing and RAA (i know... I'm becoming obsess with this two bands...). Lately I have been thinking about my adolescence and which kind of music I used to listen... I'm not gonna say any name here cause you, readers, will make fun of me... I just want to share with you that lately I started listening again this bands, they changed my mood so many times. This song is the best example: "don't worry about your problems now baby 'cuz they just don't matter when it comes down to the fact that everybody's got problems now baby and life's too short to keep them bottled up inside". My future is looking good. My new "most-scroobled-band-of-the-week" is the answer. New Zeland is the origin. This small islands are doing so many good things lately (at least for me). Starting with the movie Eagle Vs Shark, the Lord of the rings, Black Sheep, the TV-show Flight of the Conchords and now, bands like Elemeno P, Kingston or Goodnight Nurse... Like I said, my future is looking good cause I have a new destination in my list: NEW ZELAND. Anyone interested?

Aquest dijous 5 de Març us recomenem que no us perdeu l'IPOD BATTLE que tindra lloc al Mond Bar de Gràcia (pl. del Sol 14) entre els nostres amics del Mai a la vida i Indiespot. Escoltareu des de Franz Ferdinand fins a Brand New i més i segur (m'ho ha confirmat indiespot, YAAAY! ) que caurà alguna cançó canadenca (RAA!!!!) que ultimament tant magrada a mi i que ha tingut cert èxit (50 baixades el primer mix de música canadenca per mi ja es molt!). Això si, també diuen que poden posar quaaalsevol cançó que demaneu (si la tenen al seu ipod clar!).

* the fucking eagles - out of this world. I found out about this band after listening a podcast in KEXP so I decide to download the song and put it in mode repeat ON... After 8 times listening the same song I wanted to go to the street and start destroying something with a baseball bat wearing a black jacket, jeans with big holes and big black boots. I wanted to be persecuted by the police and do like Sid Vicious for a while. Yeah, I know what are you thinking: how crazy is this guy? I just wanted you to listen the song, the whole story is a joke. :)

* harlem shakes - winter water. I love this song of Harlem Shakes. I remember when my co-blogger and friend (earl grey) told me about this band. "hey, you should check this out!" I started listening the EP cause everything my friend recommends me it's good. Probably I listened 10 times and I was almost going to his concert in Brooklyn... But then I left the band for some months until I saw this song... So now I have the album, the EP and I'm sharing my favourite song. Thanks earl grey.

* lovely rita - baked beans. Lovely rita is not my favourite song of The Beatles. That's for sure. A song wrote it by Paul about a meter maid of Liverpool can not my favourite song of them... But then I saw a band with the same name so I check them out. After a few discussions with my mind I nominated "baked beans" to the prize: "happy songs for a (fucking) monday morning" and "english song with french accent".

* shapes have fangs - what in the world. Shapes have fangs is a band from Austin, Texas. Right now they are getting ready to be part of the BEST festival in USA, SXSW, for second time. (If anyone wants to pay my flight ticket to Texas I will make a monument for him). But did you know there is another festival like SXSW call NXNE in Toronto? And the ticket price is much mooooore cheaper (again, If anyone prefers to pay me the ticket to Toronto I'll also make a monument for him). So if any of you go to SXSW please don't forget to check this band.

Si si si! Finalment! Nou cd dels canadencs "the ghost is dancing"! Aqui teniu la nota que han deixat al seu myspace amb el tracklist! Ara a esperar fins abril!

"Happy to say that we've officially finished mastering our new album tonight. We're all pretty ecstatic in the Ghost is Dancing camp, Chris Stringer, for all of his farting and grunting, did a bang up job (and we highly recommend him to anyone in search for a fine producer).

The album is called "Battles On" and we'll be releasing it (if all goes as scheduled), April 21st (we're also scheduling a tour right now so stay posted).

I torno a penjar un playlist amb 10 cançons més de grups canadencs (repetint 2 de l'última). En aquesta trobem la nova sensació canadenca, Bruce Peninsula (segons CBC 3), els nous Parlovr, Oh No Forest Fires (segons jo), el "side-project" de the Rural Alberta Advantage, We're scared (em sembla que un dels components està al grup però nose si realment estan fent alguna cosa...), i el nou top artist del meu last.fm, BOXER THE HORSE. Tot això amenitzat amb una cançó més dels RAA i d'Entire Cities.

NEW BAND: parlovr

PARLOVR is a band from Montreal, Canada (you know how much I love canadian bands) who start playing together on 2006. Like it says in his myspace of the band: "Reacting against the multi-instrumental, many-membered orchestral bands that crowded the local Montreal scene at the time, PARLOVR was started with the intention of blowing amps and streamlining pop melodies, bringing back the power-trio of the 90s with an off-the-wall twist".

And what can I say about the sound: In his myspace it says they do a "sloopy pop" but I will try to make a comparision with bands and I'll say Parlovr is a mix between Handsome Furs, Royal Bangs and a little bit of Arcade Fire but with only 3 guys in the band. They have great voices who can make you sing in the middle of the street in a fucking bad day and make you feel better... repeating some parts of the lyrics till you know exactly what they felt when they wrote it... Parlovr is the kind of bands I would like to see as much times as I can in a small club with good sound to sing with them while i'm losing my voice.

Just buy the self-titled relase of 2008 from his myspace and you won't regret it. Just listen "pen to the paper" and you will understand me.

TV SERIAL: skins

Let's speak about this TV serial today. A british comedic teen drama that follows a group of teenagers from Bristol as they experience love, family, and growing up. 8 crazy teenagers between 16 and 17 years old. Every episode follows one of the teenagers in his life but always linking with the group. The serial won the Rose d'Or on 2008 and was also nominated for BAFTA.

After watching 1 season and a half in 1 week I have to say I'm really fan of this group (every group of teenagers is going to be only 2 seasons, and i'm finishing the second one... I'm a little bit scared of the change...). They just started the 3rd season in UK and I think the ratings are much more better... Let's see.

Another thing about the serial is the soundtrack: really good songs for every episode and always finding the right one for the moment... You can have it here.

Enjoy this tv serial with drugs, "fuck" (all the meanings), wanka (and more swearing), love, friendship (and not so friendship), fights, party's, alcohol, music and fashion (and not so fashion).

I just realise I have to write more in english so I decided to use it again, in some posts. I want to begin this new era with Audrye Sessions. (a band I forgot to put to my favourite 2008 albums) I was in the Music Hall of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, last summer watching a free concert of Margot and the Nuclear So and So's with two more bands... One of them: Audrye Sessions. After listening half of the concert I went to the merch store to buy his first album (self released): Braille. What a great deal! I paid 10 $ for it (hand made!) and It makes me change my way to understand music... A great voice and great lyrics! 12 songs, some of them better than the others and some of them anthems of my last trip. (When I listen The Paper Face and Relentless I always remember me walking around the brooklyn bridge or checking LP's in a tiny little record shop in Williamsburg). And when I listen them here in Barcelona (shuffle mode rocks!) a big strange feeling come to me... :) They have a new EP you can buy in itunes and they are preparing a new album for 2009. I can't wait more!

So what else I can say to you to listen this great band from California?!

Aquest mati me despertat amb ganes de veure "Nick & Norah's infinite playlist"... La peli potser no serà la nova "Juno" però la banda sonora esta moooolt i mooolt bé. Dir-vos que en els crèdits finals surt la nova cançó dels Vampire Weekend "Ottoman" i que a mi m'ha agradat molt (7 escoltes en modo repeat just al acabar la peli). Espero el seu nou cd des de que va sortir el primer... I just avui que he mirat el seu myspace m'he trobat amb aquest video d'un cover que van fer de la cançó de "Plastic Bertrand" . Per si alguna vegada us trobeu a frança i no sabeu com demanar la vostra beguda preferida. :D La veritat és que realment no se perquè he fet aquest mix però des de fa un temps necessito sempre escoltar alguna d'aquestes cançons durant el dia. Bé, la majoria sabeu el perquè, imagino... :$ Peró la veritat es que si tingues que escollir entre que magrada més si la música cantada en espanyol o en francès (la catalana, segons de qui, està mooolt per sobre) crec que em quedaria amb la francòfona. WOW! Quina noticia! Si fa dos dies penjàvem el video de la cançó que van cantar junts avui tenim l'exclusiva (que ja comentava EarlGrey en el mateix post del video): Ben Gibbard (frontman de Death Cab For Cutie) li ha demanat a Zooey Deschanel (la She de She & Him i per qui em coneix un dels meus somnis...) de passar per l'altar..... (si.... ja no tinc res a fer-hi...) Encara no se sap gaire més però tan aviat com apareixin més noticies aqui estarem earlgreywithmilk per informar-vos... I es que ens trobem davant de la parella més INDIE del món. YEAH! :)

Jo no entenc que té Canada però nomès fan que treure grups que m'agraden... començant l'any vaig descobrir Born Ruffians i durant l'any he escoltat entire cities, the rural alberta advantage (dels quals he parlat fa poc), the acorn, the weakerthans (el concert cancelat al lollapalooza...), women, caribou, tokyo police club, .... buuuuf! I aixi podria seguir i seguir... Nose si es el perquè de tota aquesta nova escena canadenca busca superar el seu vei, USA, d'on surten grups de sota les pedres, o és que durant aquest any han fet un boom!

D'aquest grup de Toronto, Ontario, són un grup d'amics que porten tocant des de l'Agost de 2004... Des de 2004 fins ara han anat compartint escenari amb The hidden Cameras, Rogue Wave i The Most Seren Republic i afegint instruments per aconseguir el so que buscaven pel grup. El seu primer EP va tenir un exit relatiu entre el mon blogger (nomès he vist alguns comentaris en que recalquen que es un disc preciós...). Finalment, al Juny del 2007 van grabar el seu primer LP, The Darkest Spark i que puc dir-vos d'ell... que m'ha deixat annonadat... Des de la primera cançó, una mena d'intro anomenada "September '01", fins a l'última, "Arrivals (are never enough)" ens intenten portar al fred del Canada amb un indie pop-rock que no deixara indiferents a la majoria... Però la part que m'ha marcat més seria des de "Shuttles and planes" fins a "Wall of snow"... buuuf... doneu-li temps i ja veureu.

Quan el teu last.fm et diu que portes 67 escoltes d'un grup que has conegut 4 dies endarrere et comences a plantejar si de nou t'has trobat amb un "supergrup". Els supergrups són grups que quan acabes d'escoltar per una vegada el seu cd necessites tornar-lo a posar, són grups que et fan veure el que t'envolta d'una manera diferent, són grups que del seu primer albúm haurien de treure totes les cançons com a single i amb el seu videoclip de rigor, són grups dels que esperes el segon cd o un EP tant aviat com sigui possible, són grups que saps que et marcaran, són grups que aguantaran molt temps en el teu iPod/iPhone, ....

Desprès de tirar milions de floretes al grup dir-vos que The Rural Alberta Advantage és un trio de Toronto, Canada, que disfruta fent un indie-rock sobre hometowns i heartbreaking. Canten sobre estius als Rockies i hiverns a la granja... Espero que per algun dels festivals d'estiu portin alguns grups canadencs perquè ultimament són els que més em marquen (born ruffians, the acorn, women, caribou, etc....)

Per fer aquesta llista me basat en els cd's que més he escoltat durant aquest any i si algun d'ells ha tingut algun significat més important com seria el de Born Ruffians o el de Royal Bangs (els vaig coneixer en el concert de Oh No Oh My a NYC aquest agost). * Hello readers! No, no torno a l'anglès... Nomès és que me adonat que els millors EP tots venen de USA i porto tota la nit escoltant-los. Doncs res, com ja vaig prometre comencen les llistes dels millors del 2008. Si tot va bé faré 5 llistes entre les que hi hauran: els millors EP & singles / els millors LP / les 30 millors cançons de l'any / els millors concerts / les millors pelis/series. I es que desprès d'enarmorar-me del nou EP "Blood bank" del gran "bohn eevair" (tal i com es pronuncia segons wikipedia) he mirat a veure si hi havia alguna cara B o cançó que m'hagues deixat d'aquest home i pam! He trobat una! WISCONSIN. Va sortir a la venta per l'iTunes Store si compraves l'albúm, "For Emma, forever ago" (que és un cd del 2007...i no del 2008 com moltes llistes intenten mostrar). Buscant entre diversos blogs l'he trobat i he pensat en penjar-la perquè es una autentica preciositat de cançó.

Et dutxes.
En aquell moment t'adones que és divendres.
Agafes algo de picar de la nevera.
Obres l'ordinador i mires el correu personal i el google reader.
Marxes cap a l'oficina.
Fa fred.
Arribes i te'n adones que tota la gent que treballa amb tú somriuen tontament...
Comences a mirar els correus de la feina.
Fas feines tontes durant el matí.
Són les 11:30, vas a esmorzar.
Ja falta menys, penses.
La 1:30, hora de dinar, 3 hores de descans.
Bicing fins a casa.
Dinar ràpid i migdiada llargaaa.
Tornes a treballar.

I sopes i comences a pensar que faras aquella nit, amb qui quedaras, com acabaras, etc...
I surts de festa.
I dorms tant com pots, son dies de festa i no tens res a fer.
S'acosta el nadal i necessites fer compres.
I camines per Portal del Angel un dissabte per la tarda.
I gastes diners.
I estas content perquè encara es dissabte.
I arriba la nit i vas a sopar amb els teus amics o al cine o et quedes a casa veient alguna pelicula o un capitol d'alguna serie que no t'ha donat temps de veure durant la setmana.
I ja ens trobem a diumenge.
Dorms fins a les 2.
Et desperta l'olor de la cuina. "Nyam" penses.
Dines i fas una migdiada de 3 hores, es diumenge i no tens res a fer.
Però arriba la nit i t'en adones que l'endemà ja torna a ser dilluns i la setmana és molt llarga...
Vas al llit.... zzzzz...

10 coses que NO ESTARAN en la meva llista dels "Millors del 2008"

I es que ja comencen a sortir les llistes del millor del 2008, millor album, cançó, pel·licula, concert, etc... i desprès de veure aquesta pàgina m'ha vingut al cap fer el mateix: 10 coses que MAI, per cap de les raons, haurien d'estar en les llistes de 2008.

10- Qualsevol cançó/album/grup que durant l'estiu hagi sonat per tots els pobles de catalunya en les seves super disco-mòbils no pot entrar en la llista.
9- Els nou albums o recopilatoris de gent com Paul Mcartney, Ringo Starr o The Smiths... (jo crec que ja son prou rics...)
8- Un homenatge a Barack Obama... Ehem... Pot ser ha sigut un dels grans moments del 2008 però com que encara no ha fet res haurem d'esperar al pròxim any per saber si entra...
7- L'eurocopa aconseguida per la selecció espanyola de futbol... juru que com torni a sentir el PODEMOS! i marxo a viure a Andorra on la seva selecció no arriba mai gaire lluny...
6- "Vicky, Cristina, Barcelona".... Woody Allen encara deu estar rient-se de la pasta que va cobrar per aquesta peli...... incomprensible...
5- Tipic grup de música que no coneix ni deu però que posant-lo a la llista quedes com un super indie! (com que jo quan poso grups no vull quedar com un super indie doncs algun segur que caura, per si algu pensava en mi...).
4- Series espanyoles com Fisica o Quimica, El Internado, Sin tetas no hay paraiso, etc... o programes com El juego de tu vida, Mujeres y hombres y viceversa, etc... no haurien d'apareixer maaaaaaaaaai en aquestes llistes.... patètic...
3- MGMT, The Ting Tings, Black Kids, Coldplay, The Killers, etc.... Si, jo he ballat les seves cançons però estic bastant farts d'ells i les seves cançons MAI haurien d'entrar a cap llista.
2- El concert de Bruce Springsteen al Camp Nou ja que no hi era.... (segons les critiques deien que va ser el millor concert de l'any... snif....)

9 del matí. La nit passada no va ser la millor de la setmana... no es que recordi gairebe mai els somnis que tinc però quan un d'ells es tant estrany com aquest em fa pensar. Imagineu-vos dormir i que somieu que esteu dormint en un lloc que us sona pero no podeu saber perquè ni on es... Sembla que el matalàs, la manta, els llençols tenen un olor que us sona pero en aquell moment no podeu recordar-la... passa l'estona i sentiu uns sorolls que altres vegades ja havieu sentit... us comenceu a preocupar pero no podeu obrir els ulls, esteu dormint plàcidament... les hores passen i de cop us desperteu en el somni... A la vegada que la persona del somni (jo) es desperta jo (el real) em desperto... són les 8:12 del mati i em noto molt cansat, com si no hagues descansat, com si mentres dormia portes una pedra enorme a sobre... em costa aixecar-me... començó a pensar el perquè i llavors em ve una visió al cap: I si realment no he dormit res? I si realment el meu somni no era un somni si no que era la realitat? I si es així, perquè era tant creible? Perquè no em despertava quan volia? Obro l'ordinador i trobo, en una carpeta que no recordava, el cd de "beasts and superbeasts". "Qui son aquests? No em sonen de res..." penso... Els afegeixo a l'itunes i gràcies a les seves primeres 4 cançons el meu cansament per no haver dormit desapareix: màgia. :)

Surto de casa direcció a la feina, és un dia soleiat però el fred em deixa les mans congelades nomès creuar el passeig del Born. Em queden 30 min de caminada pel centre de Barcelona fins a l'agència. Em miro els grups del mp3 per escollir quin m'escalfara l'orella durant el camí. De cop trobo "Adam & the Amethysts" i em pregunto d'on els he tret... Recordo que "said the gramophone" deia que serien el grup del 2008 i fa poc van demanar-li a Adam Waito que recomenes grups. Sona "stupid ocean" i començó a moure la mà segons el ritme. Penso a que em pot recordar el grup però res... deu ser que encara estic adormit o que fa molt fred i la part musical del meu cervell encara recorda "will cookson" d'ahir a la nit... Cap problema, penso, ja em vindrà al cap. El fred segueix apoderant-se de mi... gràcies a "the part of me that's evergreen" començó a notar la calor de la cançó i aquesta va recorrent tot el meu cap... No ha acabat la cançó que noto una nova ràfaga de calor, comença a sonar "amethyst amulet" (i have an amethyst amulet around my neck!). Buuuuf! Quin canvi! I ja per acabar de rematar-ho, "bumble bee". I amb tot això que arribo a la feina, 9:52, i el jefe ha conectat la calefacció....

NEW BAND: peggy sue & the pictures

Avui vull presentar-vos un nou grup que he conegut de UK, Peggy Sue & the pictures. I es que no seria important si no diguessin que son "anti-folk heroes of London". No es que tingui gaire idea del que això vol dir però pel que fa a la música, que es el que a MI m'importa, puc dir-vos que la veu de la noia et deixa extasiat... (des de NYC em diuen que la seva veu recorda a Kate Nash... no puc comparar ja que no he escoltat a Kate Nash...). Acaben de treure un doble 7" (EDU!), anomenat "The First Aid", del que nomès hi han 500 copies i que podeu trobar aqui... (dir-vos que jo m'he enamorat de la portada...).

Pels que esteu una mica cansats de tant folk o pels que voleu descobrir que es això de ser anti-folk heroes escolteu el seu myspace.

NEW BAND: night shall eat these girls and boys

Últimament estic fent molts posts de NEW BAND'S... ho se... i cada una d'elles te un nom més estrany que l'anterior.... però que voleu que faci si els grups que m'agraden tenen noms aixi... D'aquest grup (ara són nomès dos membres) us puc dir que son d'Ypsilanti, Michigan, al costat de Ann Arbor (els que saben una mica el meu viatge per USA saben de que parlo...), que tenen influencies de Beach House, The National, Mount Eerie i Panda Bear... (aqui ho deixo...) i que fins i tot tenen facebook pero no com a grup sino com a persona.

Recordo que aquest grup vaig coneixe'l escoltant un dels meus podcasts preferits, KEXP, una radio de Seattle, i em vaig enamorar del cover que van fer de la canço de The Supremes "Where did our love go?". A partir d'això myspace, buscar cançons, mails al cantant, ... fins que vaig rebre un mail amb un cover de la cançó de Tom Waits, Martha. Buf! Impressionant... (si algú la volgues puc fer-li arribar per mail). I aqui em teniu, enamorat d'una cançó i escribint sobre el grup (tenen altres versions com "steadier footing" dels DCFC o "boys don't cry" de The Cure)

NEW BAND: the holidays

Poseu-vos en situació: Sidney, Australia, 4 nois universitaris amb ganes de crear un grup de música. Això seria bastant normal si no fos que van començar sent teloners de Jamie T, The Wombats, The View, Ben Kweller i altres... Gràcies a aquesta promoció van treure el seu primer EP: The holidays. Amb aquest EP han estat de gira per Australia, ells com a cap de cartell, fins que el passat Octubre van treure el seu nou EP: When the ship goes down. Jo no se com era el primer EP però aquest segon l'escolto 3 vegades al dia... Entre Take your own advice i Mexico m'han fet decidir compartir amb vosaltres aquest grup.

"Es any nou i estic sol a Los Angeles"

Així és podria explicar la situació del protagonista, Wilson (Scoot McNairy), al començar la pel·lícula. I es que aquesta drama-comedia va sobre no quedar-se sol per any nou i buscar una persona amb qui passar-ho. I Wilson utilitza les noves tecnologies per fer-ho: utilitza craiglists (per la gent que no ho conegui, craiglists seria com el loquo d'aqui). Anunci posat a craigslist, el nostre noi espera que les noies el truquin... Acaba trucant Vivian (Sara Simmonds), una noia amb un passat que anem veient segons avança el film, que també busca un noi amb qui passar l'últim dia de l'any. Des del moment que es troben els dos senten un feeling mutuo i decideixen passar el dia junts. Durant les poques hores que falten per acabar l'any els dos protagonistes intercanvien sentiments, preocupacions, bromes, emocions, ...

Del director puc dir-vos que ha fet 3 pel·licules més entre les quals destaca Sex-less amb els mateixos protagonistes d'aquesta. He intentat buscar-la però res de res.... Sobre la que tracto avui comentar-vos que li han donat 2 premis (Florida Film Festival i Woodstock Film Festival) com a millor film i millor edició i que el dia 5 de Desembre la podreu trobar a la cartellera.

FILM OF THE WEEKEND: friday night lights (2004)

La gent que em coneix bé sap que soc fan de les series televisives americanes entre les que destaco (the big bang theory, lost, heroes, 30 rock, californication i algunes guilty pleasures...). Entre les guilty pleasures (les quals no dirè el nom de totes per no fer baixar readers del nostre blog...) volia destacar "friday night lights". Recordo començar a veure-la fa menys d'un any i tragar-me les dos temporades en menys de 2 setmanes (aquest passat octubre va començar la tercera temporada) La serie es va crear despres de la pel·lícula que us recomano en aquest post i del llibre escrit per H. G. Bissinger (Friday Night Lights: A Town, a Team, and a Dream).

Friday Night Lights és una pel·licula/llibre que retrata la vida de l'entrenador i dels jugadors d'un equip de futbol americà d'insitut de la ciutat d'Odessa (TEXAS). Esta ambientada al 1988 quan l'equip Permian High School Panthers football va arribar a les finals del campionat estatal. Molta gent podria pensar que és una altra peli americana sobre futbol americà però la diferència entre aquesta i les altres es la manera com es retrata cadascun dels personatges i la manera com el director (el mateix que la serie) l'ha grabada. Aqui es pot entendre més sobre l'esport i veure com tot un poble pot girar al voltant d'un equip i quants diners s'arriben a moure, ja sigui amb categories tant inferiors com un institut. Jo que he anat a un partit de futbol americà universitari a USA ja us puc assegurar que aquest esport mou a molta, MOLTA gent i MOLTS diners...

També volia fer menció a la banda sonora composada expressament per la pel·lícula per uns dels grups de post-rock que més seguim en aquest blog: explosions in the sky. Jo despres d'escoltar la banda sonora sempre m'imagino anant amb cotxe per Texas en un dia gris i caloros escoltant qualsevol cançó d'explosions... pell de gallina.

Si, finalment em decideixo a tornar a fer una playlist. Feia masses mesos de l'última i ja tenia ganes de compartir amb vosaltres les cançons que durant aquest temps (des de que vaig marxar a USA) no deixen de sonar en el meu IPOD/IPHONE. Potser alguns dels grups sonaran ja que he parlat d'ells en el blog i d'altres com Dent May & His Magnificent Ukelele o Hurray For The Riff Raff faran que penseu que m'invento noms de grups... Doncs no, tots existeixen. :)

Disfruteu de la nova playlist i prepareu-vos perquè la pròxima serà una llista de les millors cançons/grups/cantants del 2008. Sisi, ja estem al Desembre i ara toquen les milioooons de llistes sobre "the best of 2008", des del cd/ep fins al millor comentari d'un cantant a un concert... ehem... (jo em quedaria amb el "thanks for coming, you are awesome!" de quaaaalsevol grup).

NEW BAND: rupert and the robbers

Rupert and The Robbers són un altre grup de Hereford, UK. Nose que deu tenir aquesta ciutat d'anglaterra (a prop de Birmingham i Cardiff) però te una escena musical bastant interessant: Gossamer Albatross, Talons, Bayonets. , Capital Cities, etc... Imagino que tots es deuen coneixer perquè la ciutat té 50.000 habitants i un únic club on tots toquen: THE JAILHOUSE.

De Rupert and The Robbers molt no us puc explicar... Son 4 nois que segur que encara no tenen més de 20 anys i que entre les seves influencies estan the smiths, vampire weekend, good shoes i the shins. Un bon mix per un grup que es posa l'etiqueta d'indie-folk i que encara no te discografica. El seu single de presentació, "bad hour" (és publicara a principis de 2009), va ser escollit per Steve Lamacq (de la BBC-Radio 1) com a "Unsigned Demo of the Week - August 2008", gran cosa per un pais que és La Fàbrica de grups europeus.

WITH MILK EP: gregory & the hawk - boats & birds

Gregory & the Hawk és Meredith Godreau, cantautora americana que viu a Nova York. Des del 2003, Gregory & the Hawk han produit 2 EP's (un el que tenim en aquest post) i un LP, Moenie and Kitchi, que va sortir aquest passat 2007 sota la discografica anglesa Fat-Cat.

La veritat es que no tenia ni idea d'aquest grup fins que va arribar-me un mail des de Tallahasse, FL que em deia que Boats & Birds era "the simplest yet most beautiful song you'll ever hear". I si, tenia tota la rao. Per aquesta mateixa rao ara penjo aquest cd aixi tothom pot disfrutar de la cançó.

FILM OF THE WEEKEND: a complete history of my sexual failures (2008)

Sisi, heu llegit bé el nom de la peli... "Completa historia dels meus fracassos sexuals"... I pensareu: qui pot fer una peli així? Doncs la resposta es troba en aquest director de cine independent de UK, Chris Waitt. De les seves pelis anteriors: ni idea... pero si totes son com aquesta haurè de buscar la manera de trobar-les.

El pobre home ens explica tots els seus problemes sexuals amb les seves ex-parelles i intenta descobrir el perquè... Nomès veure'l al començament ja et ve al cap una pila de coses que poden portar a que el deixin tantes noies... (el que em costa entendre es que alguna el volgues...). El seu problema, l'impotencia... I en la pelicula busca totes les maneres possibles d'arreglar-ho (terapia psicologica, tractament masoquista [quin mal!], viagra [el millor moment es quan s'en pren unes quantes i te l'erecció de la seva vida i va pel carrer demanant a tothom un polvo...], etc...). No és una pel·lícula must-see... tampoc no es bodrio amb el qual us quedareu dormits... Però, a mi, em va semblar un bon documental/comedia per veure durant una tarda de diumenge o, com jo, un dilluns a les 12 de la nit. A més va estar en el festival de Sundance de l'any passat dintre de la selecció oficial.

Si l'acabeu veient, siusplau MAI feu com ell................

WITHMILK EP: the mountain goats & kaki king - black pear tree (2008)

Un altre EP/CD de les cabres de la muntanya... Però aquest no passarà tant desaparcebut com els altres ja que no estan sols! Tenen una veu femenina que li dona una bellesa al cd sense nom... Si la primera cançó que ens va arribar d'aquest cd ens va fer (gairebe) caure alguna llagrima (Thank You Mario But Our Princess Is In Another Castle) les altres cançons del EP no es queden enrere... la cançó que obre el cd es indescriptible... la canta Ella, mrs kaki king... i guau! quina veu! Si es que al final haure d'escoltar-me el seu myspace.... (segons m'han dit és bastant diferent...). El que jo em pregunto es: D'on treuen el temps de fer tantes cançons i gires? Jo no m'explico com en un any han tret 2 EP i un LP! Ja veig que abans que acabi l'any tindrem un nou LP...

NOU GRUP: el petit de cal eril

Nou grup català per escoltar! I es que desprès de Manel pensava que tardaria mooolt en trobar un altre grup del pais que m'agrades tant (Això que d'aquests primers encara no tinc el cd...). Recordo que els vaig escoltar perquè van sortir al mail setmanal de lecool i vaig pensar just a l'entrar al myspace: "segur que aquesta gent fa música per nens..." Però no! La seva música pot ser escoltada per nens (m'agrada que en la cançó "oh si aussi" surtin nens cantant amb ells) però també per gent que li agrada la música en català i Manel. Jo crec que tenen alguna cosa semblant els dos grups...

Recomano una escolta al seu myspace (mel es una de les meves preferides) i una escapada a algun dels seus pròxims concerts (on crec que podreu aconseguir el seu cd de demos. Estan preparant el seu primer LP pel gener del 2009):
