the long winters - the sound of coming down

Quit hiding that you're trying to get close to me
I believe it's the one thing you said without smiling
It's dubious or it's cruel
I'm losing my homemade cool

Are you fueling the loose ends?
Are you cooling your jets?
You hide in my bed and i'm hiding in my bed
I can't face the cold, grey cold
You can't play nursemaid and be the crazy patient

Hey, you know nobody's chasing us
This is the honest sound of coming down

[...]

I still wonder why I chose "The sound of coming down" to talk about Seattle's The Long Winters in our blog. In fact, I don't think this song is their best nor my favourite and hopefully the best from John Roderick and the guys is yet to come. As long time fans from the band know, this doesn't mean that all the band's work to date isn't good. On the contrary, it's great, but here at EGWM we have high expectations since we saw the band last February @ la [2] in Barcelona. What a concert! Almost two and half hours (one of the longest acts I've ever seen) of awesome tunes, jokes and permanent leadership from one of the best frontmans around: the aforementioned John Roderick, who was almost kicked out of stage by the venue's staff. How can't you fall in love with songs such as the lovely "Delicate hands", the beautiful "The Commander thinks aloud", the summertimish "Shapes", the stupidly romantic "Stupid", the magnificent "Blanket hog" or the infectious "Teaspoon" among a thousand others? We did and so should you. Anyway, less talking and more listening. Oh, just one more thing: give us a sign, John. Bring this fantastic beard of yours back and return soon. We miss you.

the moldy peaches - anyone else but you

[...]

Up up down down left right left right B A start
Just because we use cheats doesn't mean we're not smart
I don't see what anyone can see, in anyone else
But you

You are always trying to keep it real
I'm in love with how you feel
I don't see what anyone can see, in anyone else
But you

We both have shiny happy fits of rage
You want more fans, I want more stage
I don't see what anyone can see, in anyone else
But you

the national - baby, we'll be fine

All night I lay on my pillow and pray
For my boss to stop me in the hallway
Lay my head on his shoulder and say
Son, I've been hearing good things

I wake up without warning and go flying around the house
In my sauvignon fierce, freaking out
Take a forty-five minute shower and kiss the mirror
And say, look at me
Baby, we'll be fine
All we gotta do is be brave and be kind

I put on an argyle sweater and put on a smile
I don't know how to do this
I'm so sorry for everything
I'm so sorry for everything

Baby, come over, I need entertaining
I had a stilted, pretending day
Lay me down and say something pretty
Lay me back down where I wanted to stay
Just say something perfect, something I can steal
Say, look at me
Baby, we'll be fine
All we've gotta do is be brave and be kind

I pull off your jeans, and you spill jack and coke in my collar
I melt like a witch and scream
I'm so sorry for everything
I'm so sorry for everything
I'm so sorry for everything...

styrofoam - couches in alleys (ft.ben gibbard)

Hey Jack it's me,
I don't mean to bother you but something's been on my mind.
At the end of this road that climbs
the horizon, will be reached in a matter of miles.
And when the wheels cease to spin,
the walls and the fences will grow higher than redwood trees.
And I know your demise.
And I fear what will happen when the road fails to flow under me.

Oh Jack you see,
I felt like your mirror with the wind whipping through my hair.
When the wheels ceased to spin
and I cased my surroundings,
I realized I hadn't gone anywhere.
When the problems I'd left with couches in alleys, where no one would ever claim.
And the hardest part was sifting through the pieces of the rain soaked and rotten remains
when I got home.

cold war kids - hospital beds

There's nothing to do here
some just whine and complain
in bed at the hospital
coming and going
asleep and awake
in bed at the hospital

Tell me the story
of how you ended up here
I've heard it all in the hospital
Nurses are fussin'
doctors on tour
somewhere in India

I've got one friend
laying across from me
I did not choose him
he did not choose me
we've got no chance of recovery
Sharing hospital
joy and misery
joy and misery
joy and misery

nada surf - see these bones

[...]

The lights in the city
Are more or less blinking
This side of the story
Decides what you are thinking
Warm arms and cold faces
we're squinting, we're hurrying
We are taking inventory
We're digging and we're burying it

Do you remember when the light was low?
Do you remember when it fell?
Do you remember when we went through her house?
Remember ringing the bell?

Look alive
See these bones
What you are now
We were once
Just like we are
You will be dust
Just like we are
Permanent

british sea power - atom

I'll be the first to admit this is a bright but haunted age
I just don't know now now I just can't say hey hey
When you get down down to the heart and the bones of it
That's when it breaks you know, thats when it falls apart
but thats the prize now

Oh caveat emptor, open the atoms core
but that's the prize now
Oh caveat emptor open the atoms core
Oh caveat emptor open the atoms core
Whoa!

Oh Oh i just don't get it

Whoa!
Oh Oh I just don't get it
Get it
Oh I Just don't get it
Get It! Get It! Get It!
I just don't get it
Whoa!

herman dune - i wish that i could see you soon

Now that I'm across the sea I wonder if
you're gonna wait for me
or if you're gonna find
a new boy to spoon
I wish that I could see you soon

And if you
wait a little my pretty friend
until I come back to hold your hand
would be like bugs when they break through the cocoon
you know
I wish that I could see you soon

It has been a while
since I felt like this
and now I've found someone i really miss
under the sun
under the moon
I wish that I could see you soon
-- Angels!
How long do you can't see her
And I'm like - the sooner the better
do you really think she'll wait for you?
And I'm like
there's no way to say and there's nothing I can do
And there's no way to say and there's nothing I can do
-- go!

jonquil - lions

*UPDATED: We just received an e-mail from Hugo Manuel, a member of Jonquil, and he asked us if we can remove the link of Jonquil. Here the e-mail:

"Hello

Please remove the link to download lions from your blog please. It costs a lot of money to produce albums and we are loosing money all the time from doing something that we love, so its not cool that people are giving it away for free. We do appreciate the support though, so by all means give a couple of songs away as downloads.

please remove the link and the hosting, if it is your own.

thank you,
Hugo, Jonquil"
