NEW SONGS: the ghost is dancing

OH YEAH! That's how I should start this post... Finally we have something new of one of my favourite canadian bands: the ghost is dancing. Like I said in the last post about them, they were mixing and editing the new album... And now we have the first 2 songs of the new record: BATTLES ON. April 28th is the date... Just 1 more month... És probable que per inesperada, la ruptura d'una de les bandes preferides a Earlgreywithmilk, els The Format, no s'hagi acabat d'assimilar bé. És com si després del notable DVD "Live @ the Mayan Theatre" i del disc de rareses i cares B encara estiguéssim esperant el nou treball dels de Phoenix, un disc que els nostres "amics" Nate i Sam han decidit, per raons diverses i per desgràcia nostra, no dur a terme.

Per aquest motiu resulta especialment dolç llevar-se set mesos després i rebre notícies inesperades d'aquesta gent en forma d'email (podeu llegir "a fun letter from Nate" al myspace de Fun.). I quines notícies! Resulta que a partir d'unes cançons que havien escrit i començat a desenvolupar per al teòric nou disc de The Format, a en Nate Ruess (el cantant) no se li acut res més que trucar als senyors Andrew Dost (membre d'Anathallo i setè membre en una de les gires promocionals de "Dog Problems") i Jack Antonoff (cantant d'Steel Train i ex de la srta. Johansson), endur-se'ls a Nova York i començar un projecte que set mesos després sabem es dirà (diu) fun. Així de simple.

I què més, us preguntareu. Doncs els nois es fiquen a l'estudi aquest mateix setembre per començar a gravar amb (gairebé) la mateixa gent que a The Format i amb el beneplàcit d'en Sam un disc de debut que sembla ser arribarà el febrer de 2009, previ llançament d'un single al novembre. Per alleugerir-nos l'espera ens ofereixen la primera demo que van gravar. Es titula "Benson Hedges" (sí, com la marca de cigarretes però sense l' "&") i pinta MOLT bé, especialment per a tots aquells a qui ens agradava, i molt, The Format. Palmellades, instruments de vent, cors... tot molt "dogproblemià" amb en Nate cantant com sempre i amb unes lletres molt notables... No són The Format, però de ben segur ens ho faran passar bé, així que nois... rebenvinguts!!!
